Is this recommended by an algorithm? The development and validation of the algorithmic media content awareness scale (AMCA-scale)

Online media platforms are increasingly using algorithms to select and present relevant information their audiences. This highlights the importance of exploring whether people aware algorithmic content recommendations. Although some studies have already investigated awareness, no standardized instrument has been developed yet assess this construct. In study, we therefore validated Algorithmic Media Content Awareness Scale (AMCA-scale). scale contains four underlying dimensions: 1) users’ awareness filtering, 2) automated decision-making, 3) human-algorithm interplay, 4) ethical considerations. validating scale, results revealed strong psychometrics properties. The AMCA-scale was also successfully tested for three different online platforms: Facebook, YouTube, Netflix, showing its robustness over environments. Based on these findings, conclude that offers scholars a valid, reliable robust tool measure awareness.
